These basic SEO tips and tutorial are all about getting your site listed on top in Search Engines, also known as Search Engine Optimization.
Getting your web page or website found in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. is not hard to do. You just have to know where to begin.
First thing you need to do is list your initial set of keywords related to your site.
Let's assume that you're a music artist and your web page is about your artist bio and your music.
We will use the following initial set of keywords.
Music - the most obvious
Indie - a term often associated with new artists for being independent
System of a Down - just assuming that you sound like the band 'System of A Down'

Next thing you need to do is find the keywords you need to optimize for.
Ok, no problem here. Use this free tool from Yahoo's Overture.
Yahoo's keyword tool is unavailable sometimes. Just keep on trying the link.
Use also the free Google Adwords Keyword Tool.
I also suggest using the free keyword suggestion tool from DigitalPoint.com.
This one does the same job but also displays keywords from Wordtracker, which gets their free keyword results from MSN Search (as of this writing).
You should also try using the KeywordDiscovery.com Keyword Suggestion Tool. SEO experts say that this is the most comprehensive keyword research tool available.

So how do I use these tools?
Enter the keyword 'music' on Yahoo's Overture tool and look at the results.
It will show you related keywords and the number of searches it had on Yahoo.
Here are the partial results for the keyword 'music':

Note down around 10 to 20 keywords that have the most search count on your new keyword list.
Repeat the same step for the other keywords - 'indie' and 'System of A Down'.

Again, note down around 10 to 20 keywords that have the most search count on your new keyword list.
I've only shown the results from Yahoo's Overture, but I'm sure you now see how easy it is to build your new keyword list. I encourage you to use also the Google, Digital Point and KeywordDiscovery.com Keyword Suggestion Tool to expand your keyword list.

Ok I have done everything - now what?
Now, you are ready to build your keyword phrases and optimize your web page.
The next thing you need to do is to create a killer Title tag.
Create your title tag using your top keyword phrases from your keyword list. Think of this tag more of a 'Title Keyword Tag'. What you put in this tag is a key factor on which search queries you will rank highly within the major search engines.
Your Title tag should include your top 3 keyword phrases that people might be using at a search engine to find your web page.

Here are some possible Title tags for your music artist web page.
Download music of indie rock band [your band name] - indie music galore
Free music downloads from [your band name] - indie rock band - indie mp3
Download Music of Indie rock band - sounds like System of A Down - Download Now!
[your band name] Downloadable Music - sounds like System of A Down - Download Music from us!

See, I just used 3 top keywords from your keyword list to come up with these keyword phrases for your title tags. Note that I assumed that your band sound like that particular band in making the last two title tags. Your title tag should reflect exactly what your web page is about. You can only have one title tag per web page so choose very carefully.

Ok, now what do I do with the Title tag?
Good question. For your artist page here at Audiogig.com, you have the ease of changing the title tag of your web page without having the need to mess with html codes.
All you have to do is sign in to your account here and go to Artist Info. Just click on 'SEO' and enter your title tag there.
If you are inserting a title tag for your other web sites, then here's what you need to do. You will need a basic knowledge of HTML. The title tag belongs in the section of your source code. You can learn more about HTML here.

Ok, what's next?
The three biggest factors that will affect your search ranking in the major search engines are your title tag, visible text copy and the links pointing to your web pages.
You will now have to optimize the visible text copy from your web page, your Audiogig artist profile in this case.
Write your text copy based on your chosen keyword phrases. Most specifically, the keyword phrases on your title tag should be found on your text copy. This is a very important component to a successful website.
Unlike the title tag however, write your text copy with proper sentences while using your keyword phrases. Feel free to use some of the keywords that were not used in the title tag. The important thing is to use your keyword phrases only when and where it makes sense to do so.

Let's say your Title tag is:
Download Music of Indie Rock Band - sounds like System of A Down - Download Now!
Here's a sample text copy that matches your Title tag:
Download music from Indie rock band [your band name]. [your band name] is a Southern California hard rock band that's been on the scene for the past 5 years. They liken themselves to Cream, in as much as Cream was a loud band who pushed the envelope for a power trio. Their music is lyrically driven with some improvisation and straight up indie rock. The sampler downloadable music titled "Gone Again" from their current CD "Stories Untold" sounds like the hard edged toxicity rock of System of A Down. Download the track now to hear for yourself. Indie rock has never pop and rocked this good!
The highlighted words are the keyword phrases I used. See how I wrote in proper sentences the keyword phrases from the title tag and keyword list. It would do you good to write your text content longer than shown and drop in some of your unused keyword phrases.
Remember: The important thing is to use your keyword phrases only when and where it makes sense to do so.

That's cool, what's next? This is getting too long.
Be patient. We are at the last major factor for the basic SEO Tips.
Now you need to work on your inbound links.
The search engines look at the clickable text (the anchor text) of your inbound links to help them understand what they're going to find on your site.
Tips on creating the anchor text for your inbound links
Be as descriptive as possible
You should use the main keyword phrase for the web page
A good anchor text from the previous keyword list could be:
Download Music From Indie Rock Band [your band name]
Or
Download Music From [your band name]
All of the major search engines place great emphasis on the number and quality of websites linking to your web page.
This is where you need to put in some real work. You have to get a good number of inbound links to your web page to get high rankings on the search engines.

So how do I get inbound links?
You can get inbound links in a variety of ways.
Participate in forums and make your forum signature a link to your web page.
Ask your friends and other bands to link to you and link to them in return.
Post in community sites like Craigslist and Yahoo with a link to your web page.

Audiogig.com has a tool to create the html code for your links.
Just sign in to your artist account here and go to Artist Info. Just click on 'SEO' and enter your anchor text there. The tool will generate the html code. All you have to do is copy and paste it.

Ok are we done?
